Rechargeable Batteries by Coby Electronics Sold with Portable DVD/CD/MP3 Player Recalled Due to Fire Hazard

Coby Electronics, the manufacturer of the Coby DVD/CD/MP3 Player, has recalled product number TF-DVD-8501 with an 8 1/2 inch screen, because the rechargeable battery has been reported to overheat causing fires. The manufacturer has advised that it has been alerted to multiple reports where the batteries have overheated including a number of reports of fires resulting in property damage. The rechargeable batteries sold with the DVD players have serial numbers that begin with “HY.” The serial number can be found on a white sticker attached to the battery. The name “Coby” is printed on the front cover and the product number is located at the bottom of the unit. Consumers may continue to use the DVD/CD/MP3 players with the AC or DC power adapter, but should immediately discontinue use of the product with the battery. For additional information, contact Coby Electronics at 877.305.2629 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or visit the firm’s website at http://www.cobyusa.com/
