Local Bicyclist Struck by Motorist on Cole Road

Idahostatesman.com reports that a female bicylist was riding a bicycle today (5/25/10) along Cole Road near Ustick Road when a car turning onto Cole Road from a parking lot crashed into her. Fortunately, the bicyclist was reported to to be uninjured but was transported to a local hospital to get checked out. The motorist was cited for failing to stop before entering the roadway. Cyclists on the roadway in bike lanes must follow the direction of traffic, however, bicycles on sidewalks don't have to follow that rule. During the summer months more bicycles will be on sidewalks and public streets, so both bicylists and motorists need to be alert for each other and bicyclists should have eye contact with motorists before riding in front of any motor vehicle.

  1. Until the Police, Prosecutors and Courts treat vehicular crimes seriously - which they most definitely do not at present - the situation is only going to get worse.

This status quo has forced me to exercise my right of Citizen's Arrest on about 50 - successful - occasions in my immediate neighborhood against speeders, Stop Sign runners, etc...

To the chagrin of some - and with the support of other - Police Officers.
